A Very Bad Optics, AA Should Give Up At This Point- NDC Spokesperson Reacts As Atiku’s Son Declares Support For Tinubu
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Theo Abu Agada, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar following his son, Abba Atiku Abubakar’s declaration of support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abu Agada described the development as a political embarrassment for Atiku, who is seeking the presidency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the former vice president should reconsider his ambition.
Reacting to reports that Abba had pledged to deliver Adamawa State to Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), the NDC spokesman wrote: “A very bad optics. AA should give up his ambition at this point.”
Abba, who is the founder and chairman of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO), made the declaration on Friday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja during an event to unveil his organisation’s political activities and launch a subsidised transportation scheme.
He said his decision to support Tinubu was based on personal conviction and his assessment of the President’s policies, insisting that political choices should not be dictated by family relationships.
The younger Atiku also dismissed suggestions that his alignment with the APC was intended to undermine his father’s presidential ambition, explaining that he had supported his father during previous election campaigns but believed in backing any government whose policies he considered beneficial to Nigerians.
When asked whether his organisation could secure Adamawa State for the APC in 2027, Abba responded confidently: “Yes, yes, yes. We are going to deliver Adamawa State.”
His declaration is particularly significant given that Adamawa is his father’s home state and a major political stronghold for the former vice president.
Beyond his political pledge, Abba announced that the HBTO had received an initial fleet of 10 luxury buses for a subsidised transportation initiative in the Federal Capital Territory, with plans to extend the scheme to other states.
He also disclosed plans for a nationwide two-million-man march across the six geopolitical zones as part of efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election and the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abba further reaffirmed his organisation’s alignment with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, expressing confidence in its mobilisation efforts in the FCT and Rivers State.
Abu Agada’s reaction has added another dimension to the political exchanges surrounding Atiku’s 2027 presidential ambition, following his son’s decision to publicly support the incumbent President despite their differing political affiliations.
