Wahome Thuku: We Will Swear In Fred Matiang’i at Talanta Stadium in 2027
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya Wahome Thuku has sparked political discussion after making a bold statement about the 2027 General Election and the proposed swearing-in of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
In his remarks, Thuku reflected on the history of Kasarani Stadium, noting that the facility will mark 40 years next year. He recalled that the stadium was opened in 1987 and hosted the fourth All-Africa Games, an event that remains part of Kenya’s sporting history.
Thuku also shared a personal memory of the period when the stadium first opened, using humour to remind his audience how much time has passed since then. His comments highlighted the stadium’s long-standing place in the country’s sporting and public life.
The lawyer went on to discuss his visits to the facility during President William Ruto’s administration. According to his statement, he has entered the main Kasarani arena only once since Ruto came to power, when he attended an athletics event. He added that he had visited the swimming complex twice during the same period.
However, it was his closing remark that brought politics into the discussion. Thuku declared that in 2027, Dr. Matiang’i would be sworn in at the Talanta Stadium, referring to the upcoming political contest and the leadership ambitions associated with the former Cabinet Secretary.
His statement appears to express confidence in Matiang’i’s political prospects ahead of the next General Election. Nevertheless, the remark remains Thuku’s political position rather than an established outcome, as the election is yet to take place.
The reference to Talanta Stadium also brings attention to the role major sporting facilities can play in national events beyond athletics and football. Such venues can become important gathering points for significant public occasions.
As Kenya approaches the 2027 elections, statements from political commentators and public figures are likely to generate further debate about potential candidates, competing ambitions and the country’s future leadership.
