Suliman Carrim given 48 hours to contact Madlanga Commission
PRETORIA – Controversial North West businessman Suliman Carrim has 48 hours, starting Wednesday, to contact the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry to arrange his next appearance.
The directive forms part of his bail conditions after he was granted R100,000 bail with strict conditions in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a charge of failing to appear before the commission.
However, despite being granted bail, Carrim remains in custody as he faces separate car theft charges.
The 49-year-old was arrested earlier this month at OR Tambo International Airport following repeated failures to honour subpoenas requiring him to testify before the commission.

In August, commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseni Madlanga indicated that the inquiry would no longer pursue Carrim to testify. Instead, the commission would consider and file his previous testimony from his appearance in March.
The court has also imposed restrictions on Carrim’s travel documents. His passport must remain with the investigating officer until the completion of his trial and the finalisation of his testimony before the commission.
He is further prohibited from applying for a replacement passport or other travel documents without the court’s written permission.
Carrim will be back in court in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on 8 December for disclosure of the docket
