King Mswati III Reportedly Set to Marry Nontokozo Shembe After Wedding Jacob Zuma’s Daughter
King Mswati III of Eswatini is reportedly expected to marry Nontokozo Shembe, the daughter of the leader of the Nazareth Baptist Church, popularly known as Unyazi LweZulu. The development has attracted attention across Southern Africa, particularly following the monarch’s recent marriage to Nomcebo Zuma, the daughter of former South African president Jacob Zuma.
According to a report published on 28 October 2026, royal insiders claim that marriage negotiations between the Eswatini royal family and the Shembe family have been concluded. However, the reported marriage has not been officially confirmed by either family, meaning the claims should be treated with caution.
The report has generated interest because of the prominent positions held by both families in the region’s traditional, cultural and religious communities.
Nontokozo Shembe is reportedly expected to be introduced to the Eswatini nation as a Liphovela, a Swati term used for a royal fiancée. Reports also claim that her anticipated introduction during the country’s annual Umhlanga Reed Dance ceremony was postponed. The circumstances surrounding the alleged postponement have not been independently established.
King Mswati III’s reported plans have also brought renewed attention to his relationship with Nomcebo Zuma, whose engagement to the monarch became public during the 2024 Umhlanga Reed Dance celebrations.
Nomcebo is the daughter of Jacob Zuma, who served as South Africa’s president from 2009 to 2018. Her relationship with the Eswatini monarch attracted considerable regional interest because of the political and traditional prominence of the two families.
The latest reports have therefore raised questions about whether another prominent family could soon become connected to the Eswatini royal household through marriage.
The Nazareth Baptist Church, associated with the Shembe religious tradition, has a significant following in South Africa. Its leadership is influential among worshippers, making any reported connection between the church’s leadership and the Eswatini monarchy a matter of public interest.
When approached about the reported marriage, the King’s spokesperson, Percy Simelane, reportedly described the matter as a family affair and indicated that he could not speak on behalf of the royal family regarding its intentions. No formal announcement confirming the alleged union has been established.
For now, the reported marriage remains unconfirmed. Further clarification from the royal household or the Shembe family would be needed to establish whether the negotiations have resulted in a formal engagement or a confirmed wedding.
Until then, the development remains a widely discussed report rather than an officially announced royal marriage.
