Onyonka Dumps Matiang’i Camp For Linda Mwananchi And Sets Kisii Politics Buzzing Ahead Of 2027

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has announced that he is leaving the faction led by Jubilee Party leader Dr Fred Matiang’i to join the Linda Mwananchi movement. Radio Citizen FM reported the development on 29 October 2026.

Onyonka had been associated with the Matiang’i-led wing of Jubilee. His decision marks another realignment within opposition circles as Kenya moves closer to the 2027 General Election.

Linda Mwananchi is closely linked to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The movement has been positioning itself as a distinct political platform focused on citizen-centred governance and opposition mobilisation.

The announcement comes at a time of continued flux within Jubilee and related formations. Several politicians have been recalibrating their positions amid shifting alliances and internal factional contests.

Onyonka has not yet issued a detailed personal statement beyond the reported declaration. Even so the move is expected to draw attention in Kisii and the wider Nyanza region. The area remains politically significant for any leader seeking national influence.

It also underscores the competition among opposition-leaning leaders who are trying to consolidate support before the next electoral cycle.

Political observers will be watching whether his departure triggers further shifts within the Matiang’i camp. Other Jubilee-aligned figures may also reconsider where they stand.

For Linda Mwananchi the addition of a sitting senator is a tangible gain. It boosts the movement’s parliamentary representation and strengthens its regional presence.

The development highlights how fluid Kenya’s political landscape has become. Personal and factional calculations continue to reshape party and movement affiliations months after earlier realignments.
