Obi: He Built One of the Best Teaching Hospitals in the Country, Even By Today’s Standards — Igwe

In an interview on Trust TV on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Ifeanyi Igwe, a chieftain of the Niger Democratic Congress (NDC), highlighted Peter Obi’s achievements in healthcare during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, describing his contributions as evidence of his commitment to improving public services.

Igwe made the remarks while defending Obi’s record in governance and discussing his suitability for the presidency ahead of the 2027 general elections. He explained that the former governor invested in important sectors, including healthcare, education and infrastructure, arguing that his achievements could be verified through available records.

The NDC chieftain stated, “He built one of the best teaching hospitals in the country, even by today’s standards.” He made the statement while explaining the healthcare improvements he attributed to Obi’s administration between 2006 and 2014.

Healthcare delivery remains an important issue in Nigeria, where citizens continue to demand better-equipped hospitals, qualified medical personnel and affordable medical services. Teaching hospitals also play significant roles in medical education, research and the training of healthcare professionals. Investments in these institutions can contribute to improving access to quality medical care.

Igwe maintained that Obi’s record in Anambra State demonstrated his ability to prioritise public welfare and invest in essential services. He also cited improvements in education and financial management as other areas in which the former governor made contributions during his time in office.

The discussion comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with candidates and their supporters highlighting previous governance records to demonstrate their capacity to lead the country.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to examine Obi’s record in public office, maintaining that his experience as a former governor should be considered when assessing his presidential ambition and proposed plans for national development.
