Kano Man Sues In-Law After Wife Allegedly Stays in Saudi Arabia for a Year After Wedding

According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday October 29, 2026, a Kano man, Sani Muhammad Minister, has taken his in-law, Mansir Sharada, to court over his wife’s failure to return from Saudi Arabia, where she has reportedly remained for a year following their marriage.

The case is before the Upper Sharia Court on Post Office Road in Kano Municipal, presided over by Judge Garba Hamas Malafa.

Counsel to the complainant, Barrister Bashir Garba Labbo, told the court that his client had met a woman identified as Naja’atu, and the pair subsequently discussed the possibility of getting married.

According to the lawyer, the complainant was later directed to Sharada, who allegedly presented himself as the woman’s guardian, known in Islamic marriage arrangements as a wali.

Labbo alleged that Muhammad paid Sharada N500,000 as part of the arrangements for the proposed marriage. A date was subsequently agreed upon, and the marriage was eventually solemnised.

The lawyer further told the court that his client paid an additional N150,000 as dowry as part of the marriage proceedings.

However, the complainant’s counsel alleged that shortly after the wedding, the bride travelled to Saudi Arabia and had not returned to Nigeria despite spending a year abroad.

The prolonged absence reportedly prompted Muhammad to seek legal redress against Sharada, who was allegedly involved in facilitating the marriage arrangements.
