If You Didn’t Attend Primary Or Secondary School Or Forge Your Certificate, You Will Go To Jail —Obi

According to a report by LEADERSHIP on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, has promised to punish individuals who falsify academic credentials or manipulate election results if he becomes president.

Peter Obi said his administration would enforce strict rules on the educational qualifications of people seeking elective positions, insisting that candidates must have attended both primary and secondary schools.

He warned that anyone who failed to satisfy the requirements or attempted to secure political office with forged academic documents would face imprisonment.

Obi explained that candidates must be able to demonstrate that they received the required basic education, stressing that his government would not overlook violations involving academic qualifications.

He stated, “For you to contest election, you must have attended a primary school, you must have attended a secondary school and it will be visible, it will be clear. If you didn’t attend any of them or forge your certificate, you will go to jail.”

The former Anambra State governor also cautioned officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other electoral personnel against engaging in activities capable of compromising the credibility of elections.

He said anyone caught manipulating votes or tampering with election results under his administration would be held accountable and face imprisonment under the law.

According to Obi, his government would prioritise transparency in the electoral process and ensure that individuals responsible for conducting elections discharge their duties without interference or fraudulent practices.

He further indicated that his administration would pursue accountability in public office by ensuring that political candidates and election officials face legal consequences for violations.
