Court Sacks Uzodinma as APC Candidate for Imo West, Orders INEC to Publish Rochas Okorocha’s Name
A Federal High Court in Abuja has removed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
According to Vanguard on Thursday, in a judgment delivered on Thursday, Justice Obiora Egwuatu ordered Uzodinma to immediately stop presenting himself as the party’s candidate. The court held that Uzodinma did not win the APC primary election conducted on May 18, which was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Justice Egwuatu ruled that evidence before the court showed former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha secured the majority of the lawful votes cast at the primary. The judge therefore declared Okorocha the rightful winner of the poll.
Consequently, the court ordered the APC to forward Okorocha’s name to INEC as its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial election in the 2027 general elections. It further directed INEC to publish Okorocha’s name as the party’s candidate.
The judgment marks a significant development in the contest for the Imo West Senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.
