GRIDCo Announces November Power Interruptions
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced that work on the 161kV Anwomaso–Ahodwo transmission line upgrade in Kumasi has reached 70 per cent completion, with the project expected to be finished by the end of November 2026.
The project, being undertaken in collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, is aimed at strengthening the electricity transmission network and improving power supply reliability in Kumasi and surrounding communities.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 29, GRIDCo said the project had entered a crucial phase involving the installation of transmission conductors along the towers.
The company explained that the work required temporary interruptions in electricity supply to certain communities to ensure the safety of engineers, construction personnel and the general public.
According to the statement, the planned outages will begin on Friday, October 30, and continue until Sunday, November 29, 2026. The interruptions will take place on weekdays, excluding weekends, depending on the section of the transmission line being worked on.
Affected communities may experience power cuts between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on their designated dates.
ECG is expected to release a detailed schedule identifying the communities affected and the corresponding dates for the interruptions to help residents and businesses prepare.
GRIDCo and ECG acknowledged that the temporary outages could inconvenience households, businesses and other electricity consumers.
The two institutions appealed to residents in the affected areas to remain patient and cooperate with the project teams while the work is underway.
They also apologised for the disruption, explaining that the interruptions were necessary to ensure the work was completed safely and efficiently.
The companies reaffirmed their commitment to delivering the project within the planned timeframe, describing it as an important investment in improving electricity transmission infrastructure across the Ashanti Region.
Once completed, the upgraded transmission line is expected to contribute to a more reliable electricity supply for Kumasi and its surrounding areas.
