George Ruto Appears in Family Photo With Arm Sling, Leaving Kenyans Wondering What Happened

George Ruto, the youngest son of President William Ruto, has attracted attention after appearing in a family photograph with his right arm supported by an orthopaedic sling, prompting Kenyans to ask questions about his condition.

The photograph, shared on Facebook by a user identified as Baba Taifa, showed George dressed in a white shirt and beige trousers while posing alongside a man holding a child and a woman wearing a floral dress.

The group appeared to have been photographed inside a private residence. However, it was the grey sling supporting George’s right arm that caught the attention of social media users.

By the time of publication, George had not publicly explained how he sustained the injury or provided further details about his condition.

Several people who reacted to the photograph expressed concern and wished him a quick recovery, although the original post was primarily about an upcoming international football match in Nairobi.

The post’s caption read: “Uncle Kimutai has confirmed 5th January 2027. We will watch Bayern Munich vs. Ajax live in Nairobi.”

The conversation subsequently drew attention to George’s appearance, with social media users asking what had happened to his arm.

The photograph emerged just a day after George shared his excitement about the planned friendly match between German giants Bayern Munich and Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam.

On his verified Instagram account, @georgekruto, the president’s son shared the match announcement and captioned it “Very bad”, a popular Kenyan Sheng expression used to describe something exciting or impressive.

President William Ruto announced on October 28, 2026, that the match would take place on January 5, 2027, at the newly constructed Raila Odinga International Stadium in Nairobi.

The fixture is expected to serve as the stadium’s official opening match, placing the venue at the centre of attention as Kenya prepares to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside its co-hosts.

Located at Talanta Sports City along Ngong Road, the 60,000-seater facility is designed to host major football and rugby events. Its features include a hybrid playing surface, video assistant referee technology, goal-line technology and luxury skyboxes.

The stadium was named after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who died in October 2025.

Both Bayern Munich and Ajax have confirmed their participation in the highly anticipated fixture, which is expected to attract significant interest from Kenyan football fans.

For now, however, attention has shifted from the upcoming match to George’s appearance in the family photograph.

Until he or his representatives provide further information, the cause and severity of his arm injury remain unclear.

Kenyans will be hoping for his recovery as anticipation builds ahead of the January football showdown in Nairobi.
