Gachagua Suffers Fresh Political Setback as Key Kajiado Aspirant Defects to Ndindi Nyoro’s Party
Kajiado Woman Representative aspirant Susan Simayo has officially joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK), abandoning the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
PPK leader Ndindi Nyoro confirmed the political development on Thursday, October 29, welcoming Simayo during a morning event where she formally joined the party.
The defection marks a significant political development for PPK as the party continues expanding its influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Simayo is eyeing the Kajiado County Woman Representative seat in the forthcoming elections, seeking to advance her political ambitions under Nyoro’s political vehicle.
Announcing her arrival, Nyoro expressed excitement about welcoming the aspirant, describing her experience in public service as an important addition to the party.
“It was an absolute pleasure today receiving Susan Simayo Lanet to the People’s Party this morning,” Nyoro stated in his announcement.
He further disclosed that Simayo would contest the Woman Representative position in Kajiado County, expressing confidence in her ability to strengthen the party.
“With a robust experience in public service, Susan Simayo will be a great pillar of the People’s Party. Karibu sana Mheshimiwa,” Nyoro added.
The PPK leader also reiterated his party’s broader ambitions, maintaining that Africa’s interests remain central to its political and development agenda.
Simayo’s decision to join PPK comes as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 elections, with aspirants seeking favourable platforms to pursue their ambitions.
Her departure from DCP could present an organisational setback for Gachagua’s party, which has been working to establish a strong political presence across different counties.
Since leaving government following his impeachment as Deputy President, Gachagua has focused on building DCP into a formidable political movement ahead of the next elections.
The loss of an aspiring Woman Representative candidate in Kajiado could affect the party’s efforts to attract influential political figures and strengthen its grassroots networks.
However, the full political impact of Simayo’s departure remains uncertain, particularly because her individual influence and support within the county have not been independently established.
For Nyoro, welcoming Simayo provides PPK with another aspirant seeking an elective position, potentially strengthening its visibility as political competition intensifies.
The development also highlights growing political realignments as leaders and aspirants reassess their party affiliations ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 General Election.
