Dricus du Plessis Speaks Out on Brutal North West Farm Attack

South African UFC star Dricus du Plessis has brought fresh attention to farm attacks after sharing a video about the brutal assault on a North West farmer. The middleweight champion reposted a clip by Ian Cameron on his Instagram Story. In the video, Cameron talks about the severe violence often seen in farm attacks and the lasting impact on victims and their families.

The post follows the attack on cattle farmer Donovan Marx near Potchefstroom on 28 October. Marx was shot in the back, stabbed and tortured. His ears were cut off during the assault. A farm worker was also tied up but managed to free himself and raise the alarm. The attackers fled in Marx’s bakkie and remain at large. Marx was rushed to hospital in Potchefstroom where he underwent surgery. He is reported to be in a stable condition.

Du Plessis has spoken before about the dangers faced by farming communities in South Africa. By sharing Cameron’s video, the fighter has helped put the issue back in the public spotlight. Many South Africans continue to call for stronger rural security and better police response to these violent crimes that leave families and communities devastated.
