SASSA November Payment Dates Change
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced a revised payment schedule for social grants in November 2026 to accommodate the upcoming local government elections. Under the updated arrangement, payments will start on 30 October, with different categories of beneficiaries receiving their grants on specific dates.
According to the revised timetable, Older Persons Grant beneficiaries are scheduled to receive their payments on Friday, 30 October 2026. Disability Grant payments will follow on Monday, 2 November, while beneficiaries receiving children’s grants are expected to be paid on Tuesday, 3 November. Thursday, 5 November, has been set aside for beneficiaries whose grants are undergoing review, subject to eligibility checks.
SASSA explained that the adjustment is a once-off measure linked to the local government elections scheduled for 4 November. The change was approved by National Treasury following consultations intended to minimise disruptions during the election period. Beneficiaries should note that this adjustment does not permanently alter the agency’s usual payment arrangements. The payment schedules from December 2026 to March 2027 are expected to remain unchanged.
Grant recipients are also being reminded that they do not have to withdraw their money immediately after it becomes available. Beneficiaries who receive payments directly into their bank accounts can generally leave the funds there until they need them. Those collecting their grants through retailers should ensure their SASSA cards or accounts remain active and follow the instructions provided by their payment service providers.
People whose grants are under review should pay close attention to official SASSA notifications and respond to requests for additional documents or information. Beneficiaries may also need to attend appointments when instructed. Failure to comply with review requirements could affect their payments.
Anyone who does not receive their grant on the expected date should check their payment status and contact SASSA through its official communication channels or visit a local office for assistance.
Meanwhile, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 grant follows a separate payment process and is not included in the three-day schedule covering older persons, disability and children’s grants. Applicants are advised to check the official SRD website for updates on their applications and payment status.
Beneficiaries have also been urged to rely on verified government announcements rather than unconfirmed information circulating on social media. They should never disclose their identity numbers, banking information or one-time passwords to individuals claiming they can speed up grant payments.
Keeping personal contact details up to date is equally important, as it helps beneficiaries receive important notifications about their grants.
For further assistance, beneficiaries can contact SASSA’s toll-free helpline on 0800 60 10 11. They are encouraged to confirm payment information through official channels before travelling to collect their money or making financial arrangements based on the expected payment dates.
