Chelle Submits Super Eagles List for AFCON Qualifiers

According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has submitted his squad list for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header against Tanzania.

According to the report, the Franco-Malian tactician has retained several players from the previous qualifying fixtures while bringing back Osimhen, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Tochukwu Nnadi, who missed the last round of matches because of injuries and fitness concerns.

Nigeria will face Tanzania in two consecutive Group L encounters as the three-time African champions seek to revive their qualification campaign following a disappointing start to the series.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to host the Taifa Stars on November 13 before travelling to face them again on November 17.

Chelle’s decision to recall Osimhen is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s attacking options ahead of the crucial fixtures.

The Galatasaray striker remains one of the national team’s key goal threats, while the return of Dele-Bashiru and Nnadi could provide additional options in midfield.

Nigeria began their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo on September 25.

However, they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau away from home four days later, leaving Chelle with the task of restoring confidence and improving the team’s performance in the next round.

The latest squad submission comes after Nigeria’s 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly on October 6.

The Super Eagles recovered from a two-goal deficit, with Kelechi Iheanacho, Peter Edokpolor, and Akor Adams finding the net.

The upcoming fixtures against Tanzania will therefore be crucial for Nigeria as they attempt to recover from their defeat in Guinea-Bissau and strengthen their position in the race for a place at the 2027 AFCON finals.

Chelle will hope that the return of Osimhen and the other players will give the Super Eagles the attacking impetus and midfield balance needed to secure positive results in both matches.
