What UDA Senator Wants Banned at Raila Odinga Stadium After Ruto’s Announcement
Aaron Cheruiyot, Kericho Senator, has called for stricter entry rules at the newly completed Raila Odinga International Stadium, insisting that fans should gain access only through valid tickets.
The senator, shared the proposal on his official X account following President William Ruto’s announcement that German football giants Bayern Munich would face Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam in a friendly match to mark the stadium’s opening.
In his post, the politician argued that the new facility should introduce a different culture of stadium access, discouraging the informal practices that have sometimes characterised entry into sporting venues.
“Rule number one of Raila Odinga Stadium, we must now let go of certain silly habits,” he wrote.
He went on to insist that tickets should be the sole means of accessing the stadium, taking aim at the practice of allowing people in through personal connections or interventions.
“Tickets should be the only way into the stadium; the stupidity of ‘huyu ni mwesh’ must be left to Nyayo Stadium and Camp Toyoyo. New stadium, new habits,” the senator added.
The phrase “huyu ni mwesh” is commonly used to suggest that someone should be granted special treatment because of their status or connections. The senator’s remarks appeared to call for a more formal and consistent entry system at the new facility.
His comments come after President Ruto announced that Bayern Munich and Ajax would meet in Nairobi on January 5, 2027, during the ceremonial opening of the stadium, formerly known as Talanta Stadium.
The planned fixture has attracted attention from football fans, with the prospect of two major European clubs playing in Kenya generating discussion online.
The senator’s proposal also raises questions about how access to the high-profile event will be managed, particularly if demand for tickets is high.
Although his post outlined his preferred approach, it did not provide official ticketing procedures, prices or details about security arrangements for the match.
