UDA Senator Consolata Wakwabubi Ordered Off Podium at Bungoma Funeral Over Ruto Support

Nominated Senator Consolata Wakwabubi was confronted by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka and asked to leave the podium during a funeral in Bungoma County after declaring her support for President William Ruto.

The incident happened on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during the burial of Josephine Namukabo, the mother of former Bumula MP Bifwoli Wakoli. According to reports by TUKO.co.ke and Citizen Digital, Wakwabubi faced opposition from a section of mourners as political divisions emerged over support for Ruto and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Wakwabubi was addressing mourners when she expressed her loyalty to President Ruto, whom she credited with supporting her political career.

“I have my own father who is President William Ruto. He has given me my share and I fully support him,” she told the gathering, according to TUKO.co.ke.

Her remarks drew a reaction from Wamboka, who was serving as the master of ceremonies at the burial. The Bumula MP took the microphone from the senator and directed her to step down from the podium.

“We have our own son who is being supported across the country to be the president, yet someone here is telling us Ruto. Chukua bag yako uende (take your bag and leave),” Wamboka said, as reported by TUKO.co.ke.

Wakwabubi did not resist the directive. She walked away from the podium and returned to her seat, appearing to play down the confrontation by dancing along the way, the report added.

Citizen Digital also reported that the senator was booed by mourners as she attempted to rally support for Ruto, with the confrontation reflecting political divisions surrounding Sifuna’s presidential ambitions.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, another supporter of President Ruto who attended the funeral, also faced pressure from some mourners to support Sifuna.

According to TUKO.co.ke, members of the crowd urged Barasa to perform Sifuna’s campaign song and back the Nairobi senator’s presidential bid. Barasa declined and reaffirmed his support for Ruto.

The development comes as political alignments begin taking shape ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders in Western Kenya expressing differing positions on the country’s political leadership.

Barasa is seeking the Bungoma governorship on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket. One of his key rivals is Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, who is aligned with Sifuna’s camp.

TUKO.co.ke also reported that Barasa had criticised National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, accusing him of quietly supporting his brother Tim Wanyonyi’s gubernatorial ambitions despite their differing political alignments in Bungoma.

Wakwabubi was nominated to the Senate to fill the vacancy left by Gloria Orwoba, who was expelled from UDA in May 2025.

The confrontation at the funeral highlighted competing political interests among leaders seeking support in Bungoma as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections.
