Tinubu Launches $100m Southeast Gas Pipeline Project to Boost Industrial Growth
According to the report by Daily Post on October 28, 2026, a proposed $100 million gas project could improve energy supply for businesses across five Southeast states, with construction expected to commence in 2027, subject to necessary approvals and funding.
The planned 400-kilometre pipeline will connect Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi. Project promoters estimate that around 150 prospective customers could require a combined 254 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.
At the investment agreement ceremony in Enugu, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, said dependable energy was important for industrial expansion, investment and job creation.
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah promised support from governors in the region, including assistance with pipeline routes and environmental permits.
Mark Okoye, Managing Director of the South East Development Commission, revealed that the commission had committed $3 million to the initiative and was pursuing additional financing.
Callistus Mba of GasSync said work was planned to begin in the first quarter of 2027, while the first gas deliveries were targeted for the second quarter of 2028.
However, the schedule remains dependent on financing, regulatory approval, land access and cooperation from communities along the route.
