Sifuna Breaks His Silence On Yvonne Okwara As She Walks Away From Citizen TV After 20 Years
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has paid a warm tribute to veteran journalist Yvonne Okwara after her exit from Citizen TV. He recalled that she gave him his first television interview more than 13 years ago.
In a message shared on X on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Sifuna wished her well in her new chapter. Okwara signed off from the station on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
The senator thanked her for the chance she gave him early in his public career. He also remembered the conversations they shared on The Explainer, a current affairs programme linked to her.
“I really loved our little talks on The Explainer. You are one of the best to ever do it,” Sifuna wrote. He added that he would never forget the opportunity and wished her all the best ahead.
Okwara ended eight and a half years at Citizen TV during her farewell broadcast. Her wider media career has spanned two decades. She thanked colleagues, mentors and viewers who supported her along the way.
She also spoke fondly of the team behind News Gang, the political and current affairs programme. Okwara credited Jimmy Gathu for giving her an early break at Hot 96. She also thanked Joe Agueo for helping sharpen her journalism skills.
Okwara did not reveal what she plans to do next. She only hinted that she was ready for a fresh challenge. “After 20 years of building this ship, it is time to build another,” she said.
She urged fellow journalists to keep asking the right questions and holding power to account. She said the country is worth fighting for and that the fight must be shared by all.
