Outspoken Lawyer Launches Scathing Attack on John Mbadi Over ODM Caravan’s ‘Nyang’ Reswa’ Slogan

Senior Lawyer Donald Kipkorir has launched a scathing political attack on Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury John Mbadi, questioning the political messaging and national outlook of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following the launch of a caravan commemorating the first anniversary of the late Raila Odinga.

The outspoken lawyer expressed concern over what he perceives as a departure from ODM’s traditional image as a national political party.

His criticism followed Mbadi’s participation in flagging off the ODM caravan at Pawaa Centre in Nairobi, an initiative organised ahead of the anniversary event scheduled for Jacaranda Grounds.

At the centre of Kipkorir’s criticism was the phrase NYANG RESWA displayed on the caravan truck. The lawyer interpreted the Luo-language expression as CROCODILE SAVE US and questioned the political symbolism behind its use during a public event in Nairobi.

He argued that a party aspiring to command national support should carefully consider the messages and symbolism it projects to Kenyans from different communities.

Kipkorir also turned the spotlight on the apparent contradiction between ODM leaders’ criticism of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over tribalism and their own political communication.

He challenged the party’s leadership to consider how similar displays might be received if Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka or President William Ruto used their respective local languages while launching political caravans in the capital.

The lawyer’s remarks have consequently placed Mbadi under renewed political scrutiny, raising questions about the delicate balance between cultural identity, political mobilisation and national unity.

His criticism suggests that political leaders must be prepared to face the same standards they demand of their opponents.

Kipkorir further delivered a harsh assessment of Mbadi’s leadership, predicting that his perceived arrogance could undermine his political standing. However, these remarks represent the lawyer’s personal opinion rather than an established verdict on the Cabinet Secretary’s performance.
