Just Days After the Wamunyoro Meeting, Gachagua Reveals What He Sent Sifuna to Do in Western Kenya
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to stand firm against President William Ruto’s attacks and take the message to his supporters in Western Kenya.
Gachagua said he had advised Sifuna to explain to his people why they should not remain silent when the Head of State allegedly criticises him during public engagements.
“I have told Sifuna that he must go to Western and tell his people that they cannot allow William Ruto to be abusing him wherever he goes, and then come to Western as if nothing has happened,” Gachagua said.
His remarks have added a new twist to the political discussions surrounding Sifuna and the emerging opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The comments come at a time when opposition leaders are holding meetings to build a united front against Ruto. Gachagua recently hosted Sifuna and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County.
The meeting was part of wider efforts to bring opposition leaders together and explore ways of agreeing on a common presidential candidate.
Gachagua has repeatedly maintained that the opposition needs to unite if it hopes to defeat Ruto in the next election. However, the question of who should carry the opposition flag remains unresolved, with several leaders being considered in ongoing discussions.
Sifuna, who has attracted attention through his political activities and criticism of the government, is also working to strengthen his support in Western Kenya and other parts of the country.
Gachagua’s latest remarks appear to place greater emphasis on regional mobilisation, suggesting that Sifuna should encourage his supporters to take a clear position in the political contest.
The statement also comes as political leaders continue making strategic moves ahead of the 2027 polls, with alliances and possible partnerships attracting public attention.
Whether Sifuna will respond to Gachagua’s advice remains to be seen.
Will the senator use the message to strengthen his support in Western Kenya as opposition leaders prepare for the 2027 political battle?
