My Marriage Has Not Collapsed, Florence Still Lives in My House — Obinim
Ghanaian preacher Bishop Daniel Obinim has maintained that his marriage to his wife, Florence Obinim, remains legally intact despite reports of a separation, while making it clear that he is unwilling to return to their matrimonial home unless certain demands are met.
The founder of the International Godsway Church made the remarks during a sermon at his church, where he discussed the state of his marriage and referred to documents presented in court concerning the relationship between him and his wife.
According to Obinim, Florence indicated in the court documents that she was still residing in their matrimonial home, while identifying him as the person who had moved out of the house.
“My marriage has not collapsed. The woman is still in my house. When this matter was presented to court and we were reading the documents, the woman said she’s still living in her matrimonial home,” he said.
The preacher further explained that his wife had maintained that she remained committed to the marriage, despite his decision to leave their shared residence.
He also claimed that Florence stated in the documents that she had instructed members of her family to inform him that he had packed his belongings and left the house.
“Florence told the court that she’s still in the marriage, but I’m the one who walked out of the marriage. She also stated in the document that she asked her family to come and tell me that I’ve packed my stuff and left the house,” Obinim added.
Discussing the possible outcome of the matter before a judge, the preacher suggested that the court could ask him to return to his marriage because, in his view, the relationship had not been formally dissolved.
However, he stressed that he would reject such a request if he were unwilling to resume living with his wife under the existing circumstances.
“Definitely, if we should appear before the judge, he would just say I should return to my marriage. I will also be asked if I will agree to go back, but I will tell the judge I will never return to the house,” he stated.
Obinim explained that one of the conditions he would require before considering reconciliation would be for Florence to distance herself from individuals he regards as his enemies.
He further disclosed that he would want the court to require his wife to sign a formal bond promising not to associate with those individuals if she agreed to his demand.
“If she agrees to stay away from them, I will tell the judge to let her sign a bond that she will never go close to my enemies, and if she does, I will pack out again and never return,” he said.
The preacher maintained that he would rather see the marriage formally dissolved than return to the matrimonial home without an agreement on his conditions.
“Even if I consider going back, it will be on the condition that she stays away from the people she has gotten close to. If she won’t do that, then the marriage should be cancelled as soon as possible,” he added.
Obinim’s remarks indicate that although he continues to regard the marriage as existing, reconciliation would depend on whether Florence accepts the conditions he has outlined, with the preacher insisting that he is prepared to pursue a formal separation if an agreement cannot be reached.
