Multichoice announces new subscription packages for Dstv, Gotv

Spread the wordMultiChoice Nigeria, a CANAL+ company, has unveiled a new lineup of DStv and GOtv subscription packages under its “Expect More” offering, with the revised structure scheduled to take effect on November 5, 2026.

The company announced the changes at a press briefing held at its headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos, where its executives outlined plans to simplify subscription options, improve value for customers and provide content packages tailored to different viewing preferences and budgets.

The restructuring forms part of CANAL+’s broader strategy to develop a more unified and customer-focused entertainment portfolio following its integration with MultiChoice.

Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, Kemi Omotosho, said the changes were driven by customer feedback and evolving patterns of entertainment consumption across television sets, smartphones, tablets and laptops.

She explained that the platform’s strength lay in combining African entertainment, leading international content and live sports, adding that the revised packages were intended to reflect the different ways customers consume television and digital entertainment.

She added that, despite MultiChoice’s integration into CANAL+, pricing, channel packaging and day-to-day operations remained locally driven, with content offerings tailored to Nigerian consumer demand and economic conditions.

DStv introduces four subscription packages

During a product presentation led by Senior Vice-President of Communications, Tope Oshunkeye, MultiChoice outlined the prices and content offerings under the new DStv packages.

SuperSport KICKOFF will broadcast the Premier League Match of the Week and selected UEFA Champions League fixtures, while Africa Magic+ will provide a mix of local and international entertainment.

The DStv Select package, priced at N11,000 monthly, is designed primarily for family entertainment. It will combine movies, Nigerian and international television series, selected football matches and other sporting events.

The package will also feature children’s programming and Africa Magic Showcase, providing a range of viewing options for households with different entertainment preferences.

The package will offer every Premier League and UEFA Champions League match, alongside coverage of WWE, UFC, the Europa League and ESPN content, including the National Basketball Association.

DStv Premium, which will remain the company’s flagship package, will cost N44,500 monthly.

The package will include all content available on the Sports tier, as well as major motorsport competitions such as Formula 1 and MotoGP, Grand Slam tennis tournaments, major golf events and first-run international series on M-Net.

The new pricing structure places the four packages at different monthly subscription levels, allowing customers to select between entry-level entertainment, family-oriented programming, extensive sports coverage and a broader premium offering.

The company said the new arrangement was part of its broader effort to simplify its offerings and give customers clearer choices based on their entertainment needs.

However, the company did not provide the individual prices and detailed channel line-ups for the four new GOtv packages in the information presented at the briefing.

Company executives said the new model would help customers identify the content they value most when choosing a subscription.

The company also announced changes to its movie offerings with the introduction of three channels: M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends.

According to MultiChoice, the revamp is intended to improve access to new movie releases and reduce repetitions in the movie-viewing experience.

The changes form part of the company’s broader content strategy as it seeks to maintain the appeal of its traditional television services amid increasing competition from streaming platforms.

For viewers who prefer watching programmes on demand or across multiple devices, the company is also expanding access to its streaming service.

MultiChoice announced that DStv Stream would be available as a standalone service from N6,000 monthly.

The offering provides an alternative for customers who prefer internet-based viewing or want to access television content on devices other than conventional television sets.

The standalone streaming option also reflects changing viewing habits, particularly among consumers who increasingly use mobile devices and internet-connected screens for entertainment.

However, access to the service will depend on compatible devices and a suitable internet connection.

In addition to the new packages, MultiChoice announced a decoder promotion across its DStv and GOtv platforms.

Under the promotion, customers will be able to obtain a complete kit, including a dish and a one-month entry-level subscription, for N15,000.

The offer is intended to make it easier for new customers to access the company’s services while the revised subscription structure is introduced.

The company did not provide further details in the announcement about the promotion’s duration or any additional eligibility conditions.

She also assured customers who had paid for subscriptions covering multiple months that they would retain their full prepaid duration.

Ezenwa said the transition would not result in the loss of prepaid service time or interruptions to customers’ subscriptions.

AI, regional content expansion under consideration

During the question-and-answer session, MultiChoice executives also responded to questions about the company’s future technological direction, including the possible use of artificial intelligence and the expansion of regional content.

They said the areas remained under internal consideration as the company continued to assess emerging AI regulations and their potential implications for content quality and platform integrity.

The executives did not announce a specific implementation timetable for the proposed technological developments.

The new DStv and GOtv package structures are scheduled to take effect on November 5, 2026, as MultiChoice Nigeria seeks to simplify its subscription offerings and align its services with changing customer preferences.
