Kenyans Left Talking as Teacher Cillah Posts How Much She Makes Every Year Invigilating Exams
Popular Kenyan educator and content creator Teacher Cillah has sparked reactions online after revealing the amount she receives for invigilating national examinations.
Cillah disclosed that she earns between KSh 1,650 and KSh 1,665 for invigilating the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), with the payment covering several days of examination duty.
In a video shared on TikTok, the teacher used humour and animated facial expressions to explain her experience, joking about the small amount she receives for the work.
According to Cillah, teachers assigned examination duties can spend between three days and a full week overseeing the national assessments.
Despite the time spent carrying out the responsibilities, she said the allowance is quickly exhausted, leaving little to show for the work.
She also joked about the delay in receiving the money, suggesting that she might have to wait until the following year to receive another payment.
“Poleni, poleni wafanyakazi, niliwadanganya,” she said, loosely translating to an apology to fellow workers for misleading them.
Her remarks attracted attention from social media users, with her humorous delivery highlighting concerns about the allowances paid to teachers involved in national examination administration.
The video also brought attention to the financial expectations surrounding examination duties, which require teachers to dedicate several days to ensuring assessments are conducted properly.
However, the amount Cillah mentioned reflects her personal account of the payment and does not necessarily establish the allowance received by every teacher involved in national examinations.
Cillah has built a significant following on TikTok through humorous content about classroom experiences and the realities of teaching in Kenya.
She has also attracted public attention through her outspoken admiration for George Ruto, the son of President William Ruto.
Her popularity grew further after George visited Westlands Primary School, where he was seen interacting with pupils.
Cillah’s latest video adds to her growing collection of relatable content about teachers’ experiences, using humour to discuss issues that resonate with education professionals and other Kenyans.
