Kasmuel McOure Declares ODM’s Next Move, Says Party Must Back Ruto in ‘Tutam’ Negotiations

ODM youth figure Kasmuel McOure has declared that the party must embrace a new political approach, warning that genuine renewal cannot be achieved by maintaining the same thinking that has hindered its progress.

In a statement reflecting on the future of the Orange Democratic Movement, McOure argued that the party must be willing to challenge its established political culture if it hopes to achieve meaningful change.

“We cannot demand renewal while remaining beholden to the very thinking that has frustrated it,” McOure declared.

His remarks come amid ongoing political discussions surrounding ODM’s direction, leadership and relationship with President William Ruto’s administration.

McOure maintained that the party should approach negotiations without imposing conditions, signalling his support for what he described as “tutam negotiations without conditions.”

The ODM youth figure further stated that the party would approach any negotiation table firmly on President Ruto’s side, emphasising the importance of choosing leaders who prioritise the collective interest over personal political ambitions.

“We shall go to any negotiation table firmly on President Ruto’s side, and those who lead us there must be men and women whose pursuit of the greater good supersedes their personal ambitions,” he added.

His remarks underline the political position he wants ODM to adopt as conversations about cooperation, negotiations and the party’s future continue to shape the country’s political landscape.

The emphasis on negotiations without conditions could also fuel further debate within ODM over how the party should engage with the Kenya Kwanza administration and what its supporters should expect from any political arrangement.

For McOure, however, the central issue appears to be the need for a change in mindset, arguing that calls for renewal must be accompanied by a willingness to abandon approaches that have failed to deliver the desired results.

His insistence that negotiators should place the greater good above personal ambitions also raises questions about the kind of leadership he believes should guide the party through its next political chapter.

As political realignments continue to attract attention, McOure’s declaration adds another voice to the debate over ODM’s future and its engagement with President Ruto.

Whether his position gains wider support within the party remains to be seen, but his remarks highlight the competing ideas likely to influence ODM’s political direction in the months ahead.
