DCI Officers Open Fire on Prado During High-Speed Chase, Two Robbers Arrested and Pistol Recovered
Detectives from Kisumu Central have arrested two suspects after intercepting a black Toyota Prado believed to have been used in robberies within Kisumu town and nearby areas.
The operation followed a report from a woman who said she and her friends were robbed of five mobile phones by people travelling in the vehicle.
Following the complaint, detectives gathered intelligence and launched a search for the vehicle believed to have been involved in the robbery.
Their efforts led them to a Toyota Prado bearing registration number KDX 642Y.
However, when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver ignored their orders and sped away, triggering a high-speed pursuit through the town.
As the driver continued to ignore police orders, officers fired at the vehicle’s tyres, puncturing them near Oile Park.
The driver subsequently lost control of the Prado, which crashed into an electric pole.
The impact damaged the vehicle’s front-right side, bringing the chase to an abrupt end.
Two men, William Onyango Odhiambo and Felix Owino Onyango, were arrested as they tried to flee from the wrecked vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a black pistol and three mobile phones.
Detectives seized the items as exhibits to support investigations into the suspects’ alleged criminal activities.
Investigators are examining whether the suspects are connected to other robberies reported in Kisumu and neighbouring areas, including possible cross-border criminal operations.
The two suspects remain in police custody as officers complete the necessary processing ahead of their expected arraignment in court.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has reiterated its commitment to tracking down suspected criminals and dismantling networks responsible for robberies and other offences.
