“He Does Not Speak for DCP” Gachagua Draws the Line on Malala Over 2027 Alignment Remarks
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has clarified that Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala does not speak on behalf of the party, saying official positions should be communicated through designated party officials.
Speaking about political alignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, Gachagua said personal opinions expressed by party leaders should not be mistaken for the party’s official position.
“First and foremost, the deputy party leader is not the spokesman of DCP. The spokesman of DCP is the secretary general or the party leader,” Gachagua said.
He stressed the need for party officials to distinguish between their personal views and statements made on behalf of the organisation.
“He must be very categorical on what is personal opinion and what is official opinion,” he added.
Gachagua’s remarks come as opposition leaders continue discussions on possible political alliances and the selection of a presidential candidate ahead of the next general election.
The DCP leader said party communication should remain clear as consultations continue, ensuring that statements by individual officials are not automatically treated as formal party decisions.
