Gun violence leaves Nkpane residents unable to farm, DCE provides food relief
Residents of Nkpane in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region have received food relief from the District Chief Executive (DCE), Haruna Abdul-Karim, after a shooting incident left them afraid to return to their farms.
The incident, which occurred on October 22, 2026, reportedly resulted in the death of one person, while two others sustained injuries during a gun attack linked to a farming land dispute.
The incident has heightened fear among residents, preventing some community members from going to their farms to harvest food and support their families.
In response, the Kpandai District donated 30 bags of rice, four boxes of tinned tomatoes, and five gallons of cooking oil to help provide food for the affected residents.
The relief items are expected to ease the immediate food challenges facing the community as residents continue to deal with the impact of the incident.
Despite the shooting, calm has reportedly returned to the community, with police personnel present to help maintain security and prevent further disturbances.
The presence of the police is expected to reassure residents as efforts continue to maintain peace and stability in the area.
The incident has once again highlighted the impact of gun violence on rural communities, particularly farming communities whose livelihoods depend heavily on access to their farmlands.
For the residents of Nkpane the immediate concern is not only their safety but also how to secure food for their families when fear prevents them from returning to their farms.
The food donation is therefore expected to provide temporary relief while residents await a lasting return to normal farming activities.
