Governor Siminalayi Fubara has publicly committed himself to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign, linking his political decision to the president’s intervention during a difficult period in his administration.

In remarks captured in a video shared by TVC on October 27, 2026, the Rivers State governor praised Tinubu for standing by him when his political future faced serious challenges.

Fubara said, “I will do everything in my power to make sure that we have victory for President Tinubu who stood for me in my most difficult time.”

The declaration places personal gratitude at the centre of the governor’s explanation for backing the president ahead of the 2027 general election.

Political alliances are often shaped by more than party membership. Relationships built during periods of crisis can influence how politicians choose their allies, organise their supporters and approach future elections.

Fubara’s statement suggests that he considers Tinubu’s earlier intervention an important factor in determining where his political loyalty lies.

His pledge could also have implications for political mobilisation in Rivers State, where prominent leaders and their supporters play an important role in election campaigns. The governor’s public position may help clarify the direction in which he intends to mobilise support as the next election approaches.

However, promising to work for a candidate’s victory is different from demonstrating how that support will translate into votes. The eventual impact will depend on campaign organisation, voter preferences and the broader political environment.

Fubara’s declaration nevertheless removes uncertainty about his publicly stated position on Tinubu’s re-election bid. He has made it clear that he intends to support the president, and he has explained that decision through the assistance he says he received during his most difficult period.
