“We Love You, Join Broad Based” – ODM Chairman Pleads With Sifuna To Back Ruto In 2027 Race

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has urged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to join the broad-based government and support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

Barasa, who chairs ODM in Kakamega County, said Sifuna should reconsider his current political direction. He claimed that people surrounding the senator were misleading him as political divisions continue within the party.

“Sifuna, join us in the broad-based government because those around you are playing you. Do not be a junior partner. We still love you, and we can support you in the future, but in 2027, we want Ruto,” Barasa said.

The governor’s appeal comes amid growing differences between Sifuna and sections of the ODM leadership. The Nairobi senator was removed as the party’s Secretary-General and has since indicated his intention to pursue a different political path.

Sifuna has also been linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has attracted attention among politicians opposed to some of the current political arrangements.

Barasa’s remarks suggest that ODM leaders supporting the broad-based government want to keep the party aligned with Ruto ahead of the next general election.

The governor expressed continued support for Sifuna despite their political differences. He said the senator could still receive backing in future political contests but maintained that Ruto should be supported in 2027.

The statement also highlights the growing debate over the future of ODM and its relationship with the ruling administration.

With the 2027 elections approaching, leaders from different political camps are seeking to consolidate support while attempting to manage disagreements within their parties.

Barasa’s message places fresh pressure on Sifuna to clarify where he stands as political realignments gather pace. His response could influence ongoing discussions about the opposition’s direction and the future of the broad-based government.
