Vote For Me In 2028,And After Winning,I Will Have Zaafi Prepared So We Can All Eat Together—Bawumia
Ghanaian social commentator Albert Nat Hyde, popularly known as Bongo Ideas, has criticised former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over a reported promise to prepare Tuo Zaafi and share the traditional meal with supporters if he wins the 2028 presidential election.
In a Facebook post on Monday, October 26, 2026, Bongo Ideas questioned whether the reported pledge was an appropriate campaign message, arguing that Ghanaians needed to hear more about the former Vice President’s plans for employment, business development and economic growth.
The post attributed the following statement to Dr Bawumia: “Vote for me in 2028, and after winning, I will have Tuo Zaafi prepared so we can all eat together.”
Reacting to the reported remark, Bongo Ideas expressed surprise at what he considered an emphasis on sharing food rather than presenting detailed policy proposals ahead of the next general election.
“So, is Tuo Zaafi now your campaign message for 2028?” he asked.
The commentator also referred to what he described as improvements in Ghana’s economic situation under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, citing declining inflation and greater stability in the Ghanaian cedi.
Against this background, he questioned how Bawumia intended to use his experience and knowledge of economics to address the country’s challenges if given the opportunity to lead Ghana.
“So, Dr Bawumia, what happened to all the economics you have been talking about?” Bongo Ideas asked, challenging the former Vice President to explain his policy priorities.
He further argued that issues such as unemployment, the difficulties facing businesses and the need to strengthen the economy should feature prominently in discussions about the country’s future leadership.
His comments have added to the debate over campaign messaging and the expectations voters may have of presidential hopefuls ahead of the 2028 election.
While cultural gestures can be used to connect with supporters, Bongo Ideas believes that clearer explanations of policy plans are necessary for voters to assess what candidates intend to achieve if elected.
