HomeFleet & EquipmentUD Trucks opens three locations in Zambia as Southern African expansion continues Fleet & EquipmentIndustry Insights UD Trucks opens three locations in Zambia as Southern African expansion continues By Skhumbuzo Masiko 2 hours ago 0 32 Share FacebookXPinterestWhatsApp UD Trucks has entered the Zambian market through a partnership with Imperial Motors Zambia, establishing a presence in Lusaka, Kitwe and Solwezi as the Japanese truck brand continues to expand across Southern Africa.
The move gives UD Trucks a new foothold in a market where mining, agriculture, construction and freight transport depend on commercial vehicles capable of handling demanding operating conditions.
The official launch took place in Lusaka on 1 October 2026, with the announcement released on 26 October. More than 90 guests attended the event at Imperial Motors Zambia’s Kafue Road facility, including customers, industry representatives and executives from UD Trucks and Motus Africa.
The partnership brings UD Trucks into Zambia through Imperial Motors Zambia, which forms part of Motus Africa. It follows the brand’s introduction in Malawi in 2025, also through the group’s regional network.
The new network covers three key Zambian centres, although the services available differ by location.
In Lusaka, the dealership offers vehicle sales, servicing, repairs and parts. The Kitwe location provides the same services, while the Solwezi site is listed for servicing and repairs.
For transport operators, access to local maintenance and parts support is an important consideration when choosing a commercial vehicle. Downtime can affect delivery schedules, fleet utilisation and operating costs, particularly for businesses working to tight deadlines.
UD Trucks and Imperial Motors Zambia say their approach will extend beyond vehicle sales to include maintenance, genuine parts, technical expertise and ongoing customer support.

However, the companies have not published specific service turnaround targets or quantified operating-cost savings for customers using the new network.
Filip Van den Heede, managing director of UD Trucks Southern Africa, described Zambia as an important market in the company’s ambition to strengthen its presence across Southern Africa.
Imperial Motors Zambia brings 12 years of experience in the local automotive market. Its existing vehicle portfolio includes Nissan, OMODA and JAECOO.
The company plans to grow its UD Trucks customer base over the next three to five years while continuing to invest in facilities, technical skills and aftersales capabilities.
For South African fleet owners operating across borders, the expansion is worth watching. The availability of local support could be relevant when assessing vehicles for regional operations, although operators should confirm service arrangements, parts availability and breakdown support directly with the dealer.
The longer-term test will be whether the new network can deliver reliable aftersales support and help customers keep their trucks working.
