Today’s Headlines:Bafarawa gives Tinubu condition for Northern votes;Neymar facing six-match ban

Former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, has said he would vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections if the President restores peace to the North.

Bafarawa, who spoke with FRI, an online Hausa medium, said his only condition for voting for Tinubu was for him to ensure peace and restore normalcy to Sokoto State and other parts of the North.

“My only condition for allowing my vote to go to President Tinubu is for him to ensure peace and allow full normalcy to return to my area and other Northern parts,” he said.

He said time was no longer on Tinubu’s side, adding that the President had the resources and security apparatus needed to address insecurity in the region.

Santos forward Neymar Jr. could be banned for up to six matches.

The 34-year-old has been reported to Brazil’s Sports Tribunal for breaching the “Vinícius Júnior rule.”

Neymar was shown a red card for covering his mouth with his hand as he argued with Bahia midfielder Rodrigo Nestor during his team’s 1-0 league win on Saturday.

Bahia have already condemned the alleged “verbal abuse” aimed at Nestor.

A US federal judge ruled on Monday to halt tree-cutting at a public golf course in the heart of the capital, after hundreds of trees were felled in Donald Trump’s pet project.

An avid golfer who owns courses around the world, the US president has called for Washington’s East Potomac Golf Links, a public course with affordable rates, to be remodeled into a facility capable of hosting major championship-caliber events.

The early demolition for the overhaul had charged ahead despite an environmental group’s lawsuit, and opposition from local golfers who argue the 100-year-old course is a rare spot where they can affordably play the sport.

The Court ENJOINS defendants from removing or damaging additional trees on East Potomac Golf Course and ORDERS them to provide ten business days’ written advance notice before making any irreparable modification to any forms or features of East Potomac Park, pending the outcome of this litigation,” District Judge Ana Reyes wrote in Monday’s 70-page order.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to enter his defence if he so desires in his ongoing trial over his alleged unlawful interception of the telephone communications of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik issued the order yesterday while ruling on a no-case submission that El-Rufai filed on the matter.

Justice Abdulmalik dismissed the no-case submission on the grounds that there was sufficient evidence the prosecution tendered to warrant the court calling on the defendant to enter his defence if he so desires.

The judge adjourned till November 25 for his defence to begin. The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting El-Rufai on a five-count amended charge.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered security agencies to intensify investigations and apprehend those responsible for the murder of prominent Islamic preacher, Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka, and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.

The President condemned the killing of the two men, who were reportedly shot dead by gunmen in a drive-by attack on Monday evening, describing the incident as heinous and an assault on the sanctity of human life.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep sadness over the incident, insisting that the perpetrators must be identified, arrested and brought to justice.

He specifically directed the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to move swiftly and reinforce ongoing efforts by the Katsina State Police Command to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings.
