Ramaphosa Touches Down In Mamelodi—And Residents Are Refusing To Buy ANC’s Promises

African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has visited Mamelodi in the Greater Tshwane Region to assess persistent service delivery challenges affecting residents, particularly water shortages and widespread electricity outages.

During his engagement with local ANC structures, Ramaphosa received briefings on infrastructure problems that have disrupted daily activities across several township wards. Residents have been experiencing reduced water pressure and scheduled water throttling as authorities attempt to manage supply challenges across the region. These difficulties have been compounded by electricity interruptions linked to damaged distribution infrastructure and malfunctioning substations.

Local ANC councillor candidates said efforts were underway to address the electricity problems. They indicated that replacement transformers were expected to be installed on the day of the visit, with the aim of improving power supply and restoring stability in affected communities.

Technical teams have reportedly been prioritised to tackle the electrical faults and reduce the duration of blackouts. However, residents will be looking for lasting solutions that prevent recurring disruptions rather than temporary interventions.

Meanwhile, ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile has been engaging with communities across the Tshwane metropolitan area over the continuing water crisis. Mashatile, who oversees the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Water and Sanitation in his executive capacity, has been involved in efforts to address concerns surrounding bulk water supply, emergency water tanker distribution and the safety of drinking water.

The situation has increased pressure on authorities to improve water management and ensure that communities receive reliable and safe supplies. Residents in eastern Tshwane have been particularly affected by the ongoing challenges, making access to essential services a major public concern.

The visits by Ramaphosa and Mashatile also come as the ANC intensifies its campaign activities ahead of the 2026 municipal elections. Through direct community engagements, the party is seeking to demonstrate its commitment to addressing local problems and improving living conditions.

Using campaign hashtags such as #VoteANC2026 and #LetsBuildBetterCommunities, the party is encouraging residents to support its efforts to improve municipal services, upgrade infrastructure and strengthen local administration.

As the campaign continues, residents will expect the promises made during these engagements to translate into measurable improvements in water availability, electricity reliability and the overall quality of public services in Mamelodi.
