Parliamentary select committee on energy inspects BPA’s 50MWp Yendi solar project
Share on Twitter The Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy has inspected the 50MWp Yendi Solar PV Project being developed by the Bui Power Authority (BPA) in the Northern Region.
The inspection, which took place on Monday, October 26, 2026, was led by the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah.
The delegation was received by the Director of BPA’s Renewable Energy Development Department, Ing. Peter Acheampong, on behalf of the Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam.
Ing. Acheampong briefed the Committee on the project’s development since construction began on September 30, 2023. He took members through key components of the facility, including the direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) equipment, internal transmission lines, drainage systems, access roads, and staff accommodation.
He disclosed that the project was executed entirely by First Sky Limited, a wholly Ghanaian-owned company, leveraging local expertise and technical capacity.
According to him, the project demonstrates the growing ability of Ghanaian firms to deliver large-scale energy infrastructure and highlights the importance of local participation in Ghana’s energy sector.
At the close of the inspection, Mr. Bedzrah commended BPA for its continued efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio beyond its hydropower operations at Bui.
The visit afforded Members of the Committee the opportunity to assess the completed facility first-hand and gain insight into the infrastructure and systems that will support its operations.
