Nigeria Stability Index Reports Declining Security Confidence, As Economic Sentiment Improves
LAGOS – The Nigeria Stability Index (NSI) has reported contrasting trends in public sentiment, with Security recording declining scores while FX and Economy and Investor Confidence have shown comparatively stronger performance in recent months.
According to report by the office, in August 2026, NSI recorded an overall Stability Score of 4.3 out of 10, with Security emerging as the lowest-rated pillar at 2.0 out of 10. By September, the Security score had declined further to 1.6 out of 10, reflecting growing concerns among survey respondents.
Meanwhile, FX and Economy and Investor Confidence have been among the better-performing pillars, suggesting a more positive outlook in these areas compared with security.
NSI tracks public sentiment monthly across five pillars: Security, Social Stability, FX and Economy, Governance, and Investor Confidence.
The contrasting results highlight how perceptions of national stability can differ significantly across sectors, with improvements in one area not necessarily translating into greater confidence in another.
Alongside its monthly Stability Score, NSI publishes State Spotlight and Institution Spotlight features highlighting documented achievements by states and public institutions.
Through its monthly assessments, NSI continues to provide insight into changing public perceptions and the issues influencing confidence in Nigeria’s stability. For more information and monthly reports, visit www.nigeriastabilityindex.com.
