MP Eric Wamumbi Claims That Kalonzo Rejected the Running Mate Slot He Was Offered By Gachagua
Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi claims that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka rejected an offer made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua when he visited the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader on Monday, October 26, 2026.
In a post on his social media platforms, Wamumbi claimed that Gachagua asked Kalonzo to be the running mate of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, with a 30 per cent share of the government if they win the 2027 General Election.
According to Wamumbi, Kalonzo rejected the proposal, insisting that he must be the presidential candidate or walk out of the Cousins alliance.
The Mathira MP also claimed that Kalonzo had told the leaders involved in the discussions to visit him if they wanted further talks, adding that he would not return to Wamunyoro.
Wamumbi further alleged that Gachagua and his close allies argued that they could not support Kalonzo for president because they considered him lazy. He added that Kalonzo can just move on if he refuses to accept the running mate position.
In the same post, Wamumbi claimed that as it stands, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is the only competitor to President William Ruto, with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his running mate.
“Wamunyoro news. Kalonzo Musyoka has rejected the deal. Kalonzo has been offered a deputy to Edwin Sifuna with 30% government stake which he has rejected. He has said he is either the candidate or he break the cousins alliance. The sharp boys from my village have concluded that they can not have a lazy candidate na akitaka kwenda aende. Kalonzo has told them if they want to talk to him again, they visit him and that is the last time he has visited the village with good roads courtesy of WsR. As at now, the only known competitor to my friend William is Matian’gi with Ndindi Nyoro as his running mate. An MP that I will not mention who was at Wamunyoro has told me amehaara tissue Ikaisha. Yesu ainuliwe sana,” Wamumbi wrote.
The claims come as opposition leaders continue discussions about a possible alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election. Wamumbi did not provide evidence to substantiate the alleged offer, and Kalonzo had not publicly confirmed the claims in the information provided.
