Mofedi Explains Why Carling Knockout Clash Matters for Orlando Pirates

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Hleza Mofedi has explained why the club’s Carling Knockout Last 16 encounter against Milford FC could be a major priority ahead of the highly anticipated Soweto Derby.

Pirates are preparing for a busy schedule, with the cup fixture coming before their clash against Kaizer Chiefs. While the derby remains one of the biggest occasions on the South African football calendar, Mofedi believes the immediate cup assignment deserves significant attention.

The Carling Knockout presents the Buccaneers with an opportunity to continue their pursuit of silverware. A victory over Milford FC would secure their place in the quarter-finals and keep their hopes of lifting the trophy alive.

Cup matches can also present unexpected challenges, particularly when lower-division or less-fancied opponents face established Premiership teams. Pirates will therefore need to approach the fixture with focus and avoid underestimating their opponents.

The timing of the match also creates a challenge for the technical team, which must balance the demands of the knockout competition with preparations for the derby.

Although supporters may already be looking forward to the showdown against Chiefs, Mofedi’s comments highlight the importance of dealing with the immediate task first.

Pirates will be aiming to progress against Milford before turning their attention to the derby, where the pressure and expectations are traditionally high.
