MacG and Benjy Maponya Face 30 Days Behind Bars as MySol Launches Contempt of Court Battle

South African podcast host MacGyver Mukwevho, popularly known as MacG, and social media personality Benjamin Buti Maponya, widely recognised as Benjy Maponya, are facing contempt of court proceedings after mining businessman Solomon Soka Madibela, known as MySol, accused them of disregarding a court order.

Madibela is seeking a 30-day prison sentence for each man over allegations that they violated an interim court order prohibiting the publication and distribution of statements linking him to alleged criminal activity.

According to a report by the Sunday Times, court papers filed on 12 October allege that MacG proceeded with a scheduled episode of Podcast and Chill on 8 October despite having been notified of the order.

Madibela’s legal team claims the order was communicated to MacG before the broadcast aired. The businessman argues that the podcast should have been cancelled, postponed or edited to remove the disputed material.

Maponya is separately accused of failing to remove specified posts from his X account within the two-hour deadline stipulated in the court order and allegedly continuing to make statements about Madibela.

The application seeks to have both respondents declared in contempt of court and sentenced to 30 days in prison, with the proposed sentences suspended on condition that they remove the disputed content and comply with the order.

The legal battle stems from Maponya’s appearance on Podcast and Chill, where he discussed his fallout with Madibela and made allegations concerning their former business relationship and a mining venture.

Madibela subsequently approached the South Gauteng High Court, which granted an interim interdict on 8 October restricting the publication of the disputed statements.

The order does not establish whether Maponya’s allegations are true or false. Those issues remain subject to legal proceedings.

Madibela maintains that the continued availability of the podcast and related social media posts could cause further reputational damage.

The businessman also appeared on Podcast and Chill on 15 October, where he reportedly reiterated that he intended to pursue legal action against MacG despite appearing on the programme.

The contempt application adds another significant development to the increasingly public dispute, placing the popular podcast host and Maponya under mounting legal pressure.

The matter is expected to return to court on 22 October 2026, when the respondents are required to show cause why the interim interdict should not be made final.

Neither man has been declared guilty of contempt of court in these proceedings, and the allegations against them remain to be determined by the court.
