Itumeleng Khune Calls on Kaizer Chiefs Senior Players to Step Up and Restore Confidence

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has called on the club’s players to take greater responsibility and help the team improve its performances, insisting that the squad has enough quality but needs to regain its confidence.

Khune, who spent many years representing Amakhosi, believes that the players possess the ability to deliver better results but have struggled to demonstrate their full potential on the pitch.

According to the former Bafana Bafana international, confidence is one of the major issues affecting the team, and he believes the experienced members of the squad must play an important role in addressing the situation.

“Players need to come to the party. Even the players that we have, according to them. I played with some of them. We have quality; they just lack confidence,” Khune said.

His comments suggest that the problem at Kaizer Chiefs may not necessarily be a lack of talented players but rather their inability to perform consistently under pressure.

Khune’s remarks also place the spotlight on the senior members of the squad, who are expected to use their experience to guide younger players and help the team navigate difficult moments.

Experienced players often play a crucial role in maintaining team morale, particularly when results are disappointing. Their leadership can help build confidence, encourage accountability and ensure that the squad remains focused on its objectives.

For a club of Kaizer Chiefs’ stature, expectations remain high because of its history, large supporter base and ambition to compete for major trophies. However, meeting those expectations requires players to perform consistently and demonstrate the determination needed to win important matches.

The Soweto giants have faced pressure from supporters who want to see an improvement in the team’s performances and a stronger challenge for silverware.

Khune’s assessment will therefore resonate with fans who believe the current squad has the potential to achieve more if the players can find the confidence and consistency required at the highest level.

His message is particularly important for the senior players, whose performances and attitudes can influence the rest of the dressing room.

As Kaizer Chiefs continue their campaign, attention will remain on whether the players can respond to the criticism, rebuild their confidence and deliver the results expected by their supporters.
