Good News for Sifuna as ODM Reveals When It Will Support His Presidential Bid — Details

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has sent a fresh message to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, urging him to remain patient as political discussions over the 2027 General Election continue to gather momentum.

Barasa appealed to Sifuna not to rush his presidential ambitions, assuring him that members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) still care about him and would support his future leadership plans.

“SIFUNA, don’t be a junior partner, we in ODM we still love you na tutakusupport 2032,” Barasa said.

The remarks come amid growing political differences between Sifuna and a section of ODM leaders following his removal as the party’s secretary-general earlier this year.

Sifuna has since continued to build his political profile through the Linda Mwananchi movement, whose supporters have backed his ambition to contest the presidency in 2027.

The senator has maintained that he wants to offer Kenyans an alternative leadership option, while some leaders from Western Kenya have urged him to reconsider the timing of his presidential bid.

On Monday, October 26, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula cautioned young leaders against seeking the presidency before gaining enough political experience. He also declared his own interest in succeeding President William Ruto in 2032.

The latest remarks attributed to Barasa add to the debate over whether Sifuna should contest in 2027 or wait until 2032.

Barasa has previously called on Sifuna to return to ODM, arguing that the party remains the political home associated with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

However, Sifuna and his allies have continued to pursue their own political plans through Linda Mwananchi as they prepare for the next election.

The disagreement highlights the wider struggle over leadership and political alliances in Western Kenya, where several leaders are positioning themselves for influence in the coming years.

With the 2027 elections approaching, Sifuna faces a major decision about his political path.

Will he continue with his 2027 presidential ambitions or consider the 2032 option being proposed by some leaders?
