Fake Is Fake, From BBLs to Nails Don’t Give People Pressure — Mzbel Tells Serwaa Amihere

Ghanaian singer Mzbel has appeared to take an indirect swipe at broadcaster and lawyer Serwaa Amihere following the latter’s comments about women buying fake designer bags and other luxury items to create an impression of wealth.

Mzbel shared her views in a video sighted by Ghbase News, where she repeatedly argued that fake items remain fake regardless of how much they cost, using different forms of beauty enhancements and accessories to illustrate her point.

The singer mentioned artificial nails, eyelashes, wigs, chin enhancements, breast enhancements and Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs), questioning why some artificial items should be treated differently from others when discussing what qualifies as fake.

“Fake is fake. It doesn’t matter how expensive it is. If it’s fake, it’s fake,” Mzbel said in the video.

She went on to use herself as an example, acknowledging that she also uses artificial beauty products and accessories, which she believes fall under the same category of things people describe as fake.

“I have fake nails. I have fake eyelashes. It’s fake,” she added.

Mzbel’s remarks came after Serwaa Amihere recently advised women against purchasing counterfeit designer items to project an image of affluence, arguing that carrying fake luxury products could influence how others perceive them.

Although Mzbel did not mention Serwaa by name in the video, the timing and content of her remarks appeared to place her contribution within the ongoing debate about fake designer products, personal appearance and the pressure some people face to maintain a particular lifestyle.

The singer also questioned whether artificial enhancements should be judged differently from counterfeit fashion accessories, suggesting that people should consider the broader meaning of the word fake when discussing beauty and appearance.

“So which one is more fake?” she asked, before adding humorously, “Oh my God. Don’t k1ll me.”

Her question appeared to challenge the idea that fake designer bags should attract particular criticism while other artificial products and body enhancements are widely used without the same level of scrutiny.

Mzbel’s comments also touched on the pressure individuals may experience when trying to meet society’s expectations regarding fashion, beauty and financial status.

For some people, designer accessories are seen as symbols of success, while others use affordable alternatives that resemble expensive brands, sometimes to achieve a particular appearance without paying luxury prices.

The debate has also raised questions about the difference between personal choices and attempts to mislead others about one’s financial standing, especially when appearance and possessions are used to communicate social status.

Mzbel concluded her remarks by stressing that her message was not intended to be taken as an expression of hatred or personal hostility.

“It’s all love,” she said, before repeating her central point: “Fake is fake.”

Her comments have added another perspective to the discussion about counterfeit luxury products and artificial beauty enhancements, with the singer maintaining that the same standard should apply when people describe different things as fake.
