DStv Slashes Monthly Prices in Kenya: New Packages Start at KSh 750 as Premium Drops by KSh 4,400
DStv Kenya has announced a major change to its subscription packages, introducing four new options with monthly prices ranging from KSh 750 to KSh 7,300.
At the entry level, the Starter package will cost KSh 750 per month and provide access to more than 116 channels. It replaces the former Access package, which cost KSh 1,450 and offered approximately 95 channels.
The new entry-level option therefore costs KSh 700 less per month while offering a larger advertised channel lineup. It also introduces SuperSport KICKOFF, which carries selected live matches.
The Select package comes next at KSh 1,500 per month, offering more than 149 channels. It replaces the former Family package, which cost KSh 2,250.
The change reduces the monthly subscription by KSh 750 while increasing the advertised channel count from the previous package’s lineup to more than 149.
This package may appeal to households looking for a broader mix of films, television series and general entertainment without paying for the more expensive sports-focused options.
The package replaces the former Compact tier, which was priced at KSh 4,200. The new monthly fee represents a reduction of KSh 1,200.
Sports offers more than 159 channels and includes access to Premier League matches, the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, alongside WWE and UFC programming.
The introduction of SuperSport Swahili is another notable addition, with the channel targeting audiences who prefer sports coverage in Swahili.
For football fans who want to follow major European competitions without paying for the most expensive subscription, the Sports package could be an important option to compare against their current plan.
At the top of the new lineup is Ultimate, priced at KSh 7,300 per month for more than 180 channels.
Ultimate is designed for viewers seeking a broader combination of sports and entertainment.
According to the announced package details, it includes Formula 1, MotoGP, rugby, ATP tennis and major golf tournaments, alongside the sports and entertainment content available across the lower tiers.
These exclusive offerings help explain why Ultimate remains substantially more expensive than Starter and Select despite the difference in advertised channel numbers.
For example, moving from Sports at KSh 3,000 to Ultimate at KSh 7,300 requires an additional KSh 4,300 every month.
That means a household would pay KSh 51,600 more annually to upgrade from Sports to Ultimate, assuming the monthly prices remain unchanged for a full year.
The decision will therefore depend on whether the additional competitions and entertainment justify the higher expense.
The four-package structure also makes the available options easier to compare. Instead of choosing from six tiers, customers can now assess four packages according to their budgets and viewing preferences.
The announced lineup shows that the cheapest package offers the lowest monthly cost and a comparatively high number of channels for the money. The more expensive options place greater emphasis on access to specific sporting competitions and premium entertainment.
DStv has also indicated that the four packages will be available at the same prices through satellite television and DStv Stream.
This means customers can compare the packages based on their content needs and preferred viewing method without a difference in the advertised subscription price between the two delivery options.
They should also confirm the applicable terms directly with DStv Kenya, particularly if they have an existing subscription or use additional services.
The new pricing structure represents a significant adjustment to DStv’s Kenyan offering, with the entry-level package starting at KSh 750 and the highest tier dropping to KSh 7,300.
For households reviewing their monthly expenses, the key question is no longer simply how many channels a package provides, but whether its content justifies the amount paid every month.
