Linda Mwananchi Stuns And Overtakes Ruto’s UDA In A New Poll That Could Reshape Kenya’s 2027 Contest

A new survey conducted by Research 8020 has placed the Linda Mwananchi movement ahead of Kenya’s ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in party affiliation, suggesting possible changes in political preferences as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.

According to the poll results reported on Saturday, Linda Mwananchi leads with 25 per cent support, followed by UDA at 23 per cent. The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) recorded 9 per cent, while the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Wiper Democratic Movement each attracted 8 per cent.

The findings have drawn attention to the growing competition between established political parties and emerging movements seeking to influence Kenya’s political future.

Linda Mwananchi has gained visibility through its association with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, also known as Paul Owino. The movement has increasingly presented itself as an alternative for Kenyans interested in different leadership options ahead of the next election.

There are also reported efforts to establish the movement as a formal political party through the rebranding of The Equitable Party. The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has reportedly initiated the gazettement process, although further steps will be necessary to determine whether the transition is completed.

The poll comes amid increased political interest among young Kenyans, particularly members of Generation Z, many of whom have indicated an interest in participating in the 2027 electoral process. Their political preferences could influence how parties develop their campaigns and select candidates.

The reported figures may also create pressure for traditional opposition parties, including ODM and Wiper, as emerging political groups compete for supporters who want changes in leadership and governance.

However, the survey results should be interpreted cautiously. Party affiliation does not necessarily translate directly into votes during an election, and the findings represent only a snapshot of political preferences at the time the research was conducted. Details such as the sample size, geographical coverage and methodology are also important when assessing the poll’s reliability.
