Dr Sa-ad Iddrisu gives NPP regional communications director three days to retract alleged defamatory claims

Lawyers for Dr Sa-ad Iddrisu, Managing Director of SIC Financial Services Limited, have issued a three-day ultimatum to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Northern Regional Director of Communications, Yussif Danjimmah, to retract alleged defamatory statements made against their client or face legal action.

The final demand notice, dated October 26, 2026, was issued and signed by E. A. Chinatra, Esq., of C&A Chinatra & Associates PRUC, Legal Practitioners and Advocates, on behalf of Dr. Iddrisu, who is also a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The notice follows allegations that Mr Danjimmah, during a live programme on Radio Tamale 91.7 FM on October 21, 2026, claimed that Mr Bondiri Gbum, an NPP member and activist, had accused Dr. Iddrisu of giving him money to engage in anti-party activities, including insulting the party’s Northern Regional Chairman, Chairman Samba.

The lawyers described the allegations as completely false, malicious, and devoid of any factual basis, adding that they were calculated to portray their client as engaging in political manipulation and activities intended to undermine the internal cohesion of a political party.

According to the notice, the broadcast reached a wide audience and was subsequently circulated on social media platforms, including Facebook, where it allegedly continued to attract comments and republication, further damaging Dr. Iddrisu’s reputation.

A central issue raised by the lawyers is the alleged denial by Mr. Gbum, whose purported statements formed the basis of the claims attributed to him.

The notice states that Mr. Gbum has publicly denied and disassociated himself from the allegations, yet Mr. Danjimmah has allegedly failed, refused or neglected to retract the statements or apologise to Dr. Iddrisu.

The lawyers contend that the publication exposed their client to public hatred, ridicule, contempt and suspicion, particularly amid reports that Mr. Gbum had been assaulted and threatened over his alleged anti-party activities.

They further claim that Dr. Iddrisu has suffered reputational damage, personal humiliation, emotional distress and injury to his professional and political standing as a result of the allegations.

The notice also stated that Radio Tamale has acknowledged the defamatory nature of the publication and rendered an unqualified apology to Dr. Iddrisu.

The lawyers argued that Mr. Danjimmah’s alleged failure to follow suit, despite the station’s apology, has compounded their client’s grievances.

Under the final demand, Mr. Danjimmah is required to publish a full and unequivocal retraction on Radio Tamale 91.7 FM and all media platforms under his control, including Facebook and other social media channels through which the statements were circulated.

He is also required to render a written and public apology to Dr. Iddrisu in terms acceptable to him and pay GH¢5,000 in legal costs incurred so far.

The lawyers have warned that failure to comply fully within three days of receiving the notice will leave their client with no option but to commence legal proceedings against him without further notice.
