Digboluja Recalls 2023 Clash With Peju Ogunmola Over Prop Gun Scene

According to a report by PUNCH published on October 26, 2026, Yoruba Nollywood actor Taofeek Adewale, popularly known as Digboluja, has recounted an incident involving veteran actress Peju Ogunmola during a movie production in 2023. The incident occurred after Adewale fired a prop gun at the actress during a scene, prompting an angry reaction from the veteran performer.

A video of the encounter later went viral on social media, showing Ogunmola confronting Adewale after the gun was fired. The actress reportedly expressed displeasure because she had not been informed that a gun would be used during the scene. She had apparently expected the actor to hit her with an object rather than fire a weapon in her direction.

Recounting the incident, Adewale explained that he initially hesitated to pull the trigger because he knew Ogunmola disliked guns. However, he said the movie director assured him that the actress had already been informed about the planned action. Relying on that assurance, he proceeded with the scene as required by the script.

The actor explained that his character was a warrior who visited a woman playing the role of an Iyalode to persuade her to agree to a particular request. When she refused, the storyline required his character to shoot at her. Adewale acknowledged that Ogunmola’s reaction was understandable because she had been caught unprepared and did not expect the gunshot.

When asked how he would have responded if Ogunmola had slapped him during their confrontation, Adewale said he would not have retaliated. He explained that he considered the veteran actress a mother figure and believed she deserved his respect, regardless of the circumstances. Although he admitted that the incident hurt him, he maintained that his respect for her remained unchanged.

The actor’s account has generated mixed reactions on social media. Some users praised him for remaining calm and showing respect towards the older actress despite the misunderstanding. Others criticised the director, arguing that the confrontation could have been avoided if proper communication had taken place before filming.

The incident has renewed discussions about communication and professionalism in Nollywood productions. Observers have stressed the importance of informing actors about potentially startling scenes, particularly those involving weapons, to prevent misunderstandings and ensure that everyone understands what to expect during filming.
