Bad News To Ruto As The Following Details Emerge About Maina Njenga Ahead Of 2027
Political commentator Wahome Thuku has cautioned President William Ruto against relying on former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga to secure votes in the Mt. Kenya region for the 2027 General Election. Thuku expressed skepticism about Njenga’s ability to deliver substantial electoral support, arguing that his influence is limited to mobilizing youths for rallies and public noise rather than actual votes.
Thuku, who has previously worked alongside Njenga during efforts to campaign for Raila Odinga in the Mt. Kenya region, shared insights from his experience. He revealed that despite their attempts, Njenga’s influence did not translate into significant votes for Odinga. According to Thuku, out of the nearly one million votes that Odinga garnered in the region, none could be attributed to Njenga’s efforts.
Thuku further claimed that the youths who attend Njenga’s rallies are often not actively engaged in the voting process during elections, reducing the political impact of his mobilization efforts.
The warning comes at a time when President Ruto is perceived to be leveraging Njenga’s influence to counter the growing prominence of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Mt. Kenya region. Njenga has openly declared his support for Ruto, vowing to rally the region behind the president and ensure that dissenting leaders align with Ruto’s political agenda.
Thuku’s remarks highlight concerns over the strategic effectiveness of relying on Njenga to solidify support in one of Kenya’s most crucial voting blocs.
