Amaechi: He Paid Out $10 Million, Which Is ₦14 Billion, To Prevent Mosquitoes From Biting You – Wike

In a video shared by Channels TV on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), criticised former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi over an alleged $10 million expenditure on efforts to prevent mosquito bites during his administration.

Wike made the allegation while speaking at an event organised by the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, where political leaders and supporters gathered to unveil candidates and express support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Addressing the gathering, Wike recalled Amaechi’s previous promise to tackle malaria and mosquito bites in Rivers State. He questioned the effectiveness of the initiative, arguing that residents continued to experience mosquito bites despite the reported expenditure.

According to Wike, “He paid out $10 million, which is ₦14 billion, to prevent mosquitoes from biting you.” He cited the amount while challenging Amaechi’s record in office and questioning his suitability for a possible vice presidential position.

The FCT minister further argued that mosquito control in Rivers State could not be achieved through fumigation alone because the state shares boundaries with neighbouring states, from which mosquitoes could also spread. He used this argument to question the practical impact of the initiative and whether the spending had achieved its intended purpose.

Wike’s comments were part of a broader criticism of Amaechi’s administration, during which he also raised questions about other projects and expenditures. The allegations were made during a political gathering in support of Tinubu, with Wike urging supporters to scrutinise the records of political figures seeking higher office.

He concluded by calling on political stakeholders in Rivers State to remain committed to the Rainbow Coalition’s decision to support Tinubu and its endorsed candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
