Adansi Chiefs Visit Obuasi SHS Amid Sexual Abuse Allegations and Claims of Buried Items
The controversy surrounding Obuasi Senior High Technical School has taken another turn after chiefs and elders of the Adansi Traditional Council reportedly visited the school to perform traditional cleansing rituals following disturbing allegations of sexual abuse and claims that items had been buried on the school grounds.
The visit, reported by SIKAOFFICIAL1 on X, has drawn attention to the growing concerns surrounding the school, where allegations against the headmaster and an earlier incident involving suspected buried remains have raised serious questions about safety, trust and accountability.
The traditional leaders reportedly poured libation and carried out cleansing rites as part of their visit. Such practices hold cultural importance in many Ghanaian communities, where traditional authorities may perform rituals when a place is believed to have experienced troubling events.
However, the rituals do not establish whether the allegations are true. The matter still requires careful investigation by the appropriate authorities.
The school has faced intense public scrutiny following allegations of sexual misconduct involving its headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, and female students. An investigative report published by JoyNews in October 2026 brought renewed attention to claims that complaints had been made to education officials before the case gained wider public attention. The headmaster has been suspended pending investigations, while the allegations remain subject to the legal process.
The controversy is also linked to disturbances at the school in August, when students reportedly attacked the headmaster after the discovery of what appeared to be a buried foetus on the school premises.
A committee set up to investigate those disturbances later found no direct evidence that the headmaster had buried the remains. Its findings on the earlier incident must be distinguished from the separate sexual abuse allegations, which have prompted further investigations.
The involvement of the Adansi Traditional Council adds another dimension to a case that has already attracted public concern. For parents, former students and community members, the central issue remains whether the school can provide a safe environment for students and restore confidence in its leadership.
While traditional cleansing rituals may offer cultural reassurance to some members of the community, they cannot replace a proper investigation or the need to protect students who may have suffered abuse.
