Ghanaian Business People Are Happy With Sammy Gyamfi Work At GoldBod Because The Economy Is Booming

In a statement reported by GHOne TV and Starr FM on 27 October 2026, Sewoekpor attributed the positive sentiment among businesspeople to the performance of GoldBod under Gyamfi’s leadership.

The comment comes amid ongoing public debate over GoldBod’s operations, including its gold purchasing and export activities. GoldBod has reported strong results in the artisanal and small-scale mining sector, with the CEO stating that the board aggregated and exported 85.4 tonnes of ASM gold valued at US$11.6 billion between January and mid-October 2026. This figure surpassed large-scale gold exports for the same period.

Gyamfi has also announced that institutional and licensing reforms at GoldBod have created 4,866 direct jobs in less than two years. The board recorded a surplus of more than GH¢5.4 billion in the previous financial year, according to its CEO.

Critics have questioned aspects of GoldBod’s model and Gyamfi’s comments on small-scale mining formalisation. GoldBod has maintained that its focus remains on responsible sourcing and bringing eligible operators into a regulated system.

Sewoekpor’s remarks form part of the ruling party’s defence of the GoldBod CEO’s performance at a time when the institution continues to play a central role in Ghana’s gold sector and foreign exchange earnings.
